HLA-E-restricted SARS-CoV-2-specific T cells from convalescent COVID-19 patients suppress virus replication despite HLA class Ia down-regulation

CD8+ T cells expressing HLA-E have been reported in viral infection; however, it is unclear whether they contribute to the immune response against SARS-CoV-2. This work showed that SARS-CoV-2–specific HLA-E–restricted CD8+ T cells may be advantageous when classically restricted T cells are disturbed during SARS-CoV-2 infection.
